1. Is This Support Right for Your Child?
A-Level study requires students to work with greater depth, make connections between ideas and take more responsibility for their learning.
Our support may suit students who:
-
Found GCSE manageable but are struggling with the transition.
-
Understand lessons but find independent questions difficult.
-
Have gaps that make newer topics harder to follow.
-
Know the content but struggle to apply it to unfamiliar situations.
-
Need stronger calculations, analysis or extended writing.
-
Revise regularly without seeing consistent improvement.
-
Want focused support towards particular academic goals.
-
Need a clearer plan for mocks or final examinations.
We consider the student’s current understanding, course requirements and goals before recommending the next step.
2. Support at Each Stage
Year 12: Manage the Transition
Year 12 support helps students adapt to the depth and independence expected at A-Level.
We focus on:
-
Checking essential prior knowledge.
-
Understanding new concepts thoroughly.
-
Developing accurate subject vocabulary.
-
Practising application alongside content learning.
-
Establishing effective review and revision habits.
-
Learning how to respond to subject-specific questions.
The aim is to build secure understanding early, rather than allow difficulties to accumulate.
Year 13: Connect, Consolidate and Apply
Year 13 support combines current learning with the consolidation of earlier material.
We focus on:
-
Addressing unresolved gaps.
-
Connecting ideas across the course.
-
Tackling unfamiliar and multi-stage questions.
-
Improving the precision of written responses.
-
Developing examination technique and timing.
-
Planning revision around demonstrated needs.
Preparation is guided by the student’s progress and upcoming assessments—not simply by working through papers in order.
Resit Enquiries
For students considering or preparing for a resit, we review the previous outcome, areas of difficulty and time available.
Suitable support depends on the subject, specification and tutor availability.
Examination entry and any practical or coursework arrangements must be confirmed separately with the examination centre.
3. Support Matched to the Exact Course
Before planning tuition, we establish:
-
The subject and qualification.
-
The examination board and specification.
-
Whether the student is studying AS or the full A-Level.
-
The examination year.
-
Current attainment and target grades.
-
Topics already covered at school or college.
-
Upcoming assessments and priority areas.
The same subject can have different content, optional topics and assessment requirements across specifications.
We confirm that an appropriate tutor is available for the exact course before arranging tuition.
If you do not know the specification, you can obtain it from the school or college after the initial consultation.
4. Subject Enquiries
Tell us which subjects you need help with. We confirm suitable specialist support before accepting a booking.
The sections below describe the teaching focus for common subject enquiries; they are not a guarantee of current availability in every subject.
Biology
Biology support develops detailed understanding alongside the ability to apply ideas to unfamiliar examples.
Depending on the specification, teaching may address:
-
Biological molecules and cells.
-
Transport and exchange.
-
Genetics and inheritance.
-
Energy transfers and metabolism.
-
Regulation and coordination.
-
Evolution and ecology.
-
Practical methods and data interpretation.
Students practise explaining processes accurately, linking cause and effect, interpreting evidence and selecting the detail a question requires.
Chemistry
Chemistry support connects conceptual understanding with accurate mathematical and written application.
Depending on the specification, teaching may address:
-
Atomic structure and bonding.
-
Amount of substance and chemical calculations.
-
Energetics, kinetics and equilibrium.
-
Acids, bases and related calculations.
-
Inorganic chemistry.
-
Organic reactions and mechanisms.
-
Analysis and practical methods.
Students learn to explain their reasoning, organise multi-stage calculations and recognise relationships between topics.
Physics
Physics support develops understanding of principles alongside mathematical modelling and problem-solving.
Depending on the specification, teaching may address:
-
Mechanics and materials.
-
Electricity and circuits.
-
Waves.
-
Fields.
-
Thermal physics.
-
Nuclear and particle physics.
-
Practical analysis and relevant optional topics.
Students practise selecting an approach, applying equations, interpreting graphs and checking whether their answers are physically reasonable.
Mathematics
Mathematics support focuses on understanding methods and applying them independently.
Depending on the course, teaching may address:
-
Algebra and functions.
-
Coordinate geometry.
-
Trigonometry.
-
Sequences and series.
-
Exponentials and logarithms.
-
Differentiation and integration.
-
Statistics and probability.
-
Mechanics and mathematical modelling.
We investigate the source of difficulty before introducing more advanced work. Weaknesses in algebra, for example, can affect progress across several other topics.
Further Mathematics enquiries require separate confirmation of the specification, options and tutor availability.
Psychology
Psychology support combines accurate knowledge with application, analysis and evaluation.
Depending on the specification, teaching may address:
-
Core psychological approaches.
-
Relevant studies and theoretical explanations.
-
Research methods.
-
Data interpretation and mathematical skills.
-
Applying knowledge to scenarios.
-
Evaluating evidence and arguments.
-
Planning and developing extended responses.
-
Specification-specific topics and options.
Students learn to make evaluation relevant to the question rather than repeat general criticisms without explanation.
Other Subjects
For other subjects, include the subject name, examination board and main areas of difficulty on the parent form.
We will confirm whether a suitable tutor is available before recommending a booking.
5. How We Teach
Identify the Starting Point
We use a focused assessment, discussion and relevant school work to identify strengths and priorities.
A difficulty may involve missing knowledge, weak application, mathematical skills or the way an answer is communicated.
Build a Purposeful Learning Plan
We organise support around the student’s needs, course sequence and assessment schedule.
The plan addresses prerequisites where necessary without automatically restarting the entire course.
Explain With Depth
The tutor breaks down demanding ideas while retaining the precision required at A-Level.
Students are encouraged to ask questions, explain relationships and identify what they do not yet understand.
Model the Application
Worked examples show how to turn knowledge into a calculation, argument or examination response.
The tutor explains why an approach is appropriate—not only the steps involved.
Develop Independence
Students attempt tasks with progressively less guidance.
This helps distinguish between following an explanation and being able to apply it independently.
Review and Revisit
Feedback identifies the next improvement. Earlier learning returns through retrieval and mixed practice to check retention and connections.
6. Applying Knowledge to Examination Questions
Knowing the content is essential, but students also need to recognise what a question asks them to do.
Depending on the subject, we develop:
-
Interpretation of command words.
-
Selection of relevant knowledge.
-
Application to unfamiliar contexts.
-
Multi-stage calculation and logical working.
-
Analysis of data, sources or evidence.
-
Clear scientific explanations.
-
Structured arguments and evaluation.
-
Accurate terminology, notation and units.
-
Effective use of time.
Students learn to use marking guidance to understand assessment expectations without treating memorised wording as a substitute for understanding.
7. What Happens in a Typical Session?
Review and Recall
Revisit previous learning and identify difficulties from independent work.
Focused Teaching
Develop a specific concept, method or assessment skill.
Guided Application
Work through examples with questioning and feedback.
Independent Practice
Attempt a task without immediate prompts so understanding can be checked.
Feedback and Next Steps
Review the response and identify what to consolidate before the next session.
Sessions vary according to need. A student learning new content may require more explanation, while another may need detailed feedback on examination answers.
8. Revision and Mock Preparation
We help students build a revision approach based on evidence of what they can and cannot yet do.
This may involve:
-
Reviewing the specification to identify coverage gaps.
-
Testing recall without immediately relying on notes.
-
Revisiting prerequisite knowledge.
-
Completing topic questions before mixed papers.
-
Connecting related ideas across the course.
-
Practising extended responses or calculations.
-
Introducing timed work when appropriate.
-
Keeping track of recurring mistakes.
-
Reattempting questions after feedback.
A mock grade is one piece of information. We examine the underlying work to understand what needs to change.
Revision priorities should remain manageable alongside the student’s other subjects and school commitments.
9. Choose Your Support Format
One-to-One Tuition
Individual tuition allows the pace, content and feedback to focus closely on one student.
It may suit students who:
-
Have specific gaps or recurring difficulties.
-
Need detailed feedback on their responses.
-
Require support matched to particular course options.
-
Want additional challenge.
-
Need a flexible balance between content and examination practice.
Places are subject to suitable tutor availability. A waiting list may apply.
Small-Group Tuition
Where a suitable A-Level group is available, students follow a shared programme with tutor-led explanations, discussion and practice.
Compatibility matters. We consider the subject, specification, stage of learning and relevant options before recommending a group.
Groups follow a shared pace and do not offer the same individual flexibility as one-to-one tuition.
Registering an interest does not confirm that a suitable group is currently running.
Unsure Which Is Appropriate?
Select “Unsure”. We will discuss the student’s needs and available options during the strategy call.
10. Where Can Tuition Take Place?
Online
Live online tuition allows students to access support from home.
A suitable device, reliable internet connection and quiet workspace are important. Students should also have their course materials and a way to complete and share written work.
At a DIFF Teaching Venue
In-person tuition may be available, depending on the subject, tutor and timetable.
The venue and arrangements are confirmed before enrolment.
Home Tuition
Home tuition enquiries are considered for one-to-one support, depending on location and suitable tutor availability.
Delivery preferences are requests, not confirmed bookings.
11. Independent Work and Progress Updates
A-Level tuition works best when students actively use the feedback between sessions.
Independent work may include:
-
Retrieval questions.
-
Topic exercises.
-
Calculations or problem sets.
-
Extended responses.
-
Reading and preparation.
-
Corrections and repeated attempts.
-
Examination questions.
-
Timed practice when appropriate.
We encourage students to understand their priorities and take ownership of their learning.
Progress updates explain what has been covered, where understanding is becoming more secure and what needs further attention. Parent involvement is agreed appropriately with the student, including where the student is aged 18 or over.
12. Frequently Asked Questions
Can you help if GCSE went well but A-Level feels much harder?
Yes, subject to suitable tutor availability. We can help identify whether the difficulty comes from new content, underlying skills, application or independent study habits.
Do you follow the same order as the school?
Where useful, tuition can support the school’s current topics. However, we may recommend revisiting earlier material if it is preventing progress.
The sequence is agreed around the student’s needs and upcoming assessments.
Can you help students aiming for higher grades?
We can discuss support focused on deeper understanding, precision, unfamiliar applications and more demanding questions.
Targets guide preparation but are not guarantees of an outcome.
Can you support more than one subject?
You can enquire about multiple subjects. Each requires a suitable tutor, and different subjects may be taught by different tutors.
We will discuss priorities and a manageable schedule.
What if we do not know the examination board or specification?
You can obtain these details from the school or college. They do not need to delay the initial consultation, but must be confirmed before course-specific teaching is planned.
Can you help with coursework or a non-exam assessment?
Where appropriate and permitted, support may develop the underlying subject knowledge and general skills.
Assessed work must remain the student’s own. We do not write, rewrite or complete assessed submissions on their behalf. Any support must respect the school’s and awarding body’s rules.
Does tuition include practical endorsement arrangements?
No. Where the qualification has practical endorsement requirements, these must be arranged through the school or an appropriate examination centre.
Tuition may support understanding of practical methods and analysis, but does not provide formal endorsement or replace required practical participation.
Can you support a resit?
Resit enquiries are welcome, subject to the course and tutor availability. We will discuss the previous result, priorities and time available.
Examination entry and any associated requirements remain the student’s responsibility through their examination centre.
Can an adult student enquire directly?
Yes. Students aged 18 or over can contact us directly to discuss their support needs and booking arrangements.
Is the free strategy call an assessment?
No. It is a 15-minute consultation to discuss needs, answer questions and recommend next steps.
Any academic assessment is arranged separately, with its fee explained before booking.
Do you guarantee a grade or university place?
No. We provide structured teaching and preparation, but cannot guarantee examination results or admission.
Outcomes depend on several factors, including the student’s starting point, independent work, time available and the relevant entry requirements.
