Primary Education Shapes Everything That Follows

Support by school stage

Years 1–2: Early Foundations

We develop the core reading, writing and mathematical foundations that support future learning.

Focus may include:

  • Phonics and word recognition;

  • Reading fluency and comprehension;

  • Spelling and sentence construction;

  • Number bonds and place value;

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division foundations;

  • Mathematical vocabulary and problem-solving confidence.

Years 3–4: Building Independence

Students begin working with more complex ideas while developing the ability to explain their reasoning and work independently.

Focus may include:

  • Reading inference and evidence;

  • Structured and descriptive writing;

  • Grammar, punctuation and spelling;

  • Times tables and written calculation methods;

  • Fractions, measurement, time and money;

  • Multi-step mathematical problems;

  • Year 4 multiplication tables check preparation where relevant.

Year 5: Strengthening Upper-KS2 Skills

Year 5 provides an important opportunity to address gaps before the demands of Year 6 increase.

Focus may include:

  • Advanced comprehension and vocabulary;

  • Structured creative and non-fiction writing;

  • Secure arithmetic and calculation methods;

  • Fractions, decimals and percentages;

  • Geometry, measurement and statistics;

  • Mathematical reasoning;

  • Early SATs familiarisation without unnecessary pressure.

Year 6: SATs Preparation and Secondary Readiness

We combine curriculum consolidation with focused SATs preparation.

Students learn to:

  • Apply knowledge accurately under timed conditions;

The national curriculum aims to build fluency, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving—not only procedural calculation.

Science

  • Applying knowledge to unfamiliar questions;

  • Support with school topics, investigations and assessments.

Science is part of the Primary curriculum, but at the end of KS2 it is assessed through teacher assessment rather than a separate written SATs paper.

Understanding Year 6 SATs

What Are KS2 SATs?

Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests are taken at the end of Year 6. They assess:

  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling;

  • English reading;

  • Mathematics arithmetic;

  • Mathematics reasoning.

English writing and science are assessed by teachers rather than through separate national written tests. GOV.UK

For the 2026–27 academic year, the statutory KS2 tests are scheduled from Monday 10 May to Thursday 13 May 2027.

Our SATs Approach

We do not begin with endless mock papers.

Students first secure the underlying knowledge and methods required for the tests. We then introduce SATs-style questions, examination technique and timed practice at the appropriate stage.

  3. Targeted curriculum teaching;

  4. Guided SATs-style practice;

  5. Arithmetic and reasoning development;

1. Establish the Starting Point

We review your child’s year group, current attainment, school feedback, confidence and academic goals.

Where appropriate, we recommend a diagnostic assessment to identify strengths and gaps more precisely.

2. Build the Learning Plan

We convert the assessment findings into clear priorities and achievable targets.

The plan is aligned with your child’s age, relevant curriculum content and individual needs.

3. Teach, Practise and Apply

Lessons combine:

  • Retrieval of previous learning;

4. Track and Communicate Progress

What a typical session includes

A Structured Lesson - Not Supervised Homework

A session may include:

  1. Retrieval practice
    Short questions reviewing previously taught knowledge.

  2. Focused teaching
    Clear explanation of one or two priority skills.

  3. Guided practice
    Tutor and student work through carefully selected examples together.

  4. Independent application
    The student completes questions independently to demonstrate understanding.

  5. Feedback and correction
    Mistakes are discussed and corrected before they become established habits.

  6. Lesson review
    The tutor records progress and identifies the next target.

  7. Targeted homework
    Where appropriate, the student receives focused work that reinforces the lesson.

Home Tuition

One-to-one support delivered at the family home, subject to location and availability.

Suitable for families seeking:

  • Maximum convenience;

  • A familiar environment for the child;

  • No journey to the centre;

  • Individual face-to-face tuition.

Home tuition is available for one-to-one support only. Small-group locations and schedules are confirmed for each programme.
